Windows 7 Beta Now Officially Available For Download

download-windows-7Finally! So much expected day has arrived. So many of us wanted to get rid of the terrible, buggy, slow Windows Vista… And Microsoft finally said: “Let it be!”

As you probably know many of leaked Windows 7 versions have been available for download from different torrent sites and other warez forums. (btw, that’s illegal). But now, Microsoft has announced that they will release beta version of their Windows 7 available for download at their website tomorrow.

But If you want to be one of those lucky guys that will be able to download Windows 7 and use it, then you will have to be amongst the first 2.5 million other people like you who also wait for that beta release tomorrow…

So let’s clear this a little:

Microsoft is making Windows 7 beta version free to download starting from tomorrow – January, 09, 2009. (Am I dreaming?)

And they will only let the first 2.5 million users to download beta version of Windows 7. After 2.5 million downloads limit is reached, it will not be available anymore… That means you need to be really fast if you want to be lucky user. (Oh, it’s real…)

Also, if you are planning to just upgrade, you will be able to do that only with Windows Vista SP1 already installed. Other versions of Windows like XP can’t be upgraded, and need clean new installation of Win 7.

The download is available on Microsoft’s website here.

And here is Microsoft’s official video that is explaining some new things about Windows 7, like new features, performance, changes, addons and so on…

I just went to download it. I figured I could put it on DVD and use it later but it didn’t give me the option. I canceled the download/installation and read the instruction page. Here’s one of the paragraphs on that page

“The Beta will stop working on August 1, 2009. To continue using your PC, please be prepared to reinstall a prior version of Windows or a subsequent release of Windows 7 before the expiration date. You won’t be able to upgrade from the Beta to the final retail version of Windows 7. ”

So it looks like we can’t have a free OS after August. I’ll just stick with Vista. Thanks, Brian
